I gots to get a little political....
Claiming the right to amend the state Constitution as fundamental, supporters of Proposition 8 today urged the California Supreme Court to refrain from interfering with the people's vote against legal recognition of gay marriage....and to them I say.....F - You!
I really don't want Prop 8 to go back on the ballot here in CA. Take it from this token - outside of the coastal metropolitan areas in the Golden State. There are a LOT of rednecks.
I'm from Boston where LGBT citizens are allowed to marry and have the same rights as everyone else.
This is a very personal and emotional subject for me. I have a family member that believes God wants them to do all that they can to prevent Gays & Lesbians to marry. Luckily the rest of my family, if not fully supports Gay marriage, has a firm belief in 'to each his own'.
It makes me so sad to think that there are some people that are so fearful of homosexuality that they would do all they can to take away the civil liberties of another human being.
....sigh...I can't speak on this anymore at the moment....

Does Art really imitate life...?
Okay, so we’re still in the getting to know each other phase. If you aren’t privileged enough to love me, because to know me is to love me, there is no possible way for you to know some really important things about me. Like for instance my sense of humor, know how incredibly intellectual I am and how I really am the best token black girl friend anyone could have.
I love the arts – all forms of them. I am a pianist, a cellist and I love all forms of music (except bluegrass but I’m trying to learn to love it). I was big into the theatrical arts when I was younger school plays, Shakespeare, and even took a stab at stand up comedy and burlesque. I spent quite a bit of time in Europe where I was able to see the great works of art in the Prado in Madrid, the Lourve in Paris, Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and marveled the ruins in Greece. I’ve worked on the awards campaigns for a major studio and for years have been fortunate enough to enjoy some of the world’s greatest cinema….(Gosh do I sound bougie…anywho…)
All of this to say once again we’re in the getting to know each other phase so please pass no judgment when I also say that Reality TV is my guilty pleasure. My brothers have their sports, my mother her garden, my boyfriend his PS3 but me…it’s Reality TV baby.
Whether it’s real or not, fixed, scripted I don’t care…it’s USUALLY a good snapshot of Americana. Americans will do anything for a buck and 15 minutes in the limelight. Each show usually has a rainbow of contestants or at least a Token.
This season’s Bachelor got me thinking. Maybe it is because I hearted Jason Mesnick SO MUCH after last season’s Bachelorette. The show started out with the usual Token – who was dismissed early off like all of the Tokens are. Then a Bachelor/Bachelorette first! After the usual tear jerking finale, and yes I watched with my box of puffs plus, during the usually irrelevant ‘After the Rose’ episode my sweet sweet Jason dumped Melissa on National TV and choose the RUNNER UP.
As a sistah – I can safely say – had that Melissa been a ‘Monifah’ it would have been a very different show. But it also got me thinking…why has there never been a black Bachelor/Bachelorette? What does that really say? I know, I know there has been a lot of dialogue on how Barbie, the modeling world and the media as a whole have got to do better about making little black girls feel better about themselves.
Well…what about grown ass black women? I really don’t care that Barbie’s don’t hve my breasts, lips or hips or that the media still sees beautiful black women as tan or caramel color…(that’s a whole different blog and I’ve already gone all too long). I would feel better if there was a black bachelor/bachelorette. Chocolate black. I want…no need to know that in my gorgeous chocolate skin I could have 28 suitors of all races vying for my affection….
Too much to ask for?

Which came first the Twitter or the Blog
I'm not sure what prompted me to start this blog. Perhaps I was adding people to my personal Twitter site and came across Darth Vader's Twitter page. Hell, if people want to hear what's going on in the day to day life of the Evil Sith Lord...perhaps they might be interested in the day to day life of a black girl in Hollywood. So I started Tweeting...but as I have a tendacy to get long winded started a blog as well.
A wee bit of history:
I'm very well educated and from New England. My early dreams were of being a lawyer then and ad copywriter. I ended up doing Publicity and Special Events and that brought me from New England to Hollywood where I've worked for all of the major film festivals and a major studio then a TV Network and now I work for both a studio and a Network.
I've done fairly well for myself and I've made close friends with ALL levels of Hollywood. I find myself at the Oscars, Grammy's, Golden Globes, Premieres and fabulous parties...but I'm always the Token Black Woman there. I don't mind - I'm happy to oblige. I am grateful and in no way bitter or a victim - BUT I would be remiss to say that a black woman (as hot and talented as I may be) in my experience only goes so far. When I look around at ALL of the studios and the Networks people of color much less women of color aren't really in positions of leadership or influence. I'm working on changing that. And I will.
But along the way I share my experiences and observations.
